Still Life exhibit opens April 19th at John Pence Gallery

The Still Life exhibition opening this Friday at the John Pence gallery showcases a stunning array of works exploring a long-celebrated genre.  The Still Life has traditionally been understood to depict mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural or man-made.  With origins in the Middle Ages and Ancient Greek/Roman art, still life paintings give the artist more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition than do paintings of other types of subjects such as landscape or portraiture.  Within this current exhibit, the artists of the John Pence Gallery create with a mix of classic homage and adventurous interpretation.  As stated in Fine Art Connoisseur “..The staid genre of still life has been given new and adventurous life in the hands of these and other emerging representational painters.”

Participating artists include: Juliette Aristides, Jacob Collins, Tony Curanaj, Douglas Flynt, Greg Gandy, Carin Gerard, Sarah K. Lamb, Steven J. Levin, Jeremy Mann, Jacob A. Pfeiffer, Anthony Waichulis, and Will Wilson among many others.

The “Still Life” exhibit begins Friday, April 19th and runs through May 11th, 2013.  Reception for the Artists is Friday, April 19th, 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

The John Pence Gallery is located at 750 Post Street, San Francisco California.  P. (415) 441-1138.  Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 10 pm to 6 pm and Saturday 10 AM to 5 pm.  For more information about the gallery and this current exhibit please visit their website at www.johnpence.com.

A Packed House on 57th Street

Its been almost one week since Rehs Contemporary Galleries, Inc. opened their doors for The Big Gamble exhibit, and since that day the highly anticipated show has been receiving a remarkable amount of coverage.

Bloginity, an independent online forum dedicated to individuals who are shaping the cultural footprint of our generation, released an impressive review of opening day of the exhibit which featured works from Ani Art Academies artists. The article discusses the nine pieces of art that found a home by the end of the day, and the high volume of traffic in and out of the gallery (estimated at over 700) caused the elevators to malfunction. Old and young alike, guests climbed up eight flights of stairs throughout the day to catch a glimpse of The Big Gamble.

Throughout the month, Bloginity will be posting articles to learn more about the Ani artists. Be sure to check their website at: http://www.bloginity.com/

Ani Art Academies would like to thank Bloginity for a wonderful article about the show. To read the full article, please follow the link: http://www.bloginity.com/2013/04/big-gamble-estimate-700-people-attended-opening-exhibition/

Opening day of “The Big Gamble” has huge success!

The highly anticipated exhibit “The Big Gamble” opened its doors this past Saturday and was a huge success!  “The Big Gamble” hosted by Rehs Contemporary Galleries, Inc. had an all-day opening at the gallery as well as a virtual online exhibit.  By the end of the first hour, sales were confirmed of Tim Jahn’s “Doc’s Take”, Brandon Drake’s “What Lays Before Us”, Roger Long’s “North Atlantic….” and Sharon Hourigan’s “Veiled Fortuna”.   As the day went on, more sales were confirmed by the gallery.  These included another of Tim Jahn’s titled “Boney Brawler”, Rodney Davis’s “The Last Dance” and two Jason Brady works, “The Burden” and “Just a Game”.  The day finished off with Max Reynold’s “Raising in the East” being sold.

Kierstin Young selected as Finalist in International Artist magazine Competition

Ani Art Academies artist Kierstin Young is currently being featured in the April/May 2013 issue of International Artist magazine as a Finalist for the People & Figures competition.  In the article, Young tells the audience about the many diverse subjects that inspire her work.  The inspiration behind “Necrosis” “…is a modern interpretation of the classical Vanitas.  I wanted to explore the idea of how so many people walk through life, blind to the fact that so many treasured tangibles are meaningless”.  She describes her design strategy behind the drawing by beginning with the concept of a dark, ominous void that would surround a young girls silhouette.  The article closes with her talking about her working process from references and line work, to her choice of medium.
